  In December of last year Republic Windows and Doors in Chicago announced that it was shutting down. The company gave its employees only a few days notice but rather than leave the workers decided to stay. They occupied the factory and demanded accountability from management and from Bank of America, a major recipient of bailout funds, who refused to extend the company's line of credit.

  Workers at Republic Windows in Chicago have been staging a sit down strike for nearly a week, protesting the company’s abrupt closure and failure to pay vacation and wages owed under the WARN act. Leah Fried, a field organizer for UE, says that no formal settlement has been reached and negotiations are on going.
