May 6, 2011Tom Morello, Rage Against the Machine guitarist and protest singer as The Nightwatchman, was in Madison to support the workers' protest, and now his new music is inspired by those union workers. May 5, 2011"Saying when the economy is at its weakest we're going to put into law that we can't spend more to pick ourselves up...that's a depression-maker," says Heather McGhee of Demos. But despite warnings from economists from all over, the government in Washington, Democrats and Republicans both, remain obsessed with the deficit.Rev. Jesse Jackson & Tom Morello
February 25, 2011"Governors are leading a fight on the gravy and the meat is off the table," notes Rev. Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist and former presidential candidate. The meat, he notes, is a trillion dollar war, corporate personhood, unregulated banks and more, and yet conservative governors are attacking the rights of working people. "They remove the roof for the wealthy, then attack the floor for the working poor," he notes.Tom Morello: World Wide Rebel Songs
February 25, 2011Tom Morello brought a musical message of solidarity to the Wisconsin protesters last week, along with other musicians like the MC5's Wayne Kramer. And it wasn't just his own message that he carried to Madison with him--Morello read a letter from Egypt to the crowd that came to hear him play. As the protests continue in Wisconsin and Republican officials in other states bend, we bring you more of Morello's message.GRITtv Special from Madison, Wisconsin: February 22
February 22, 2011Welcome to the second day of our special coverage from the workers' protests in Madison, Wisconsin! Thanks again to our friends at The Uptake, Free Speech TV, and WORT FM in Madison for making this collaboration happen. The fight in Wisconsin has national implications, and national leaders have made the trip to Madison to express solidarity with the workers and join their struggle. Perhaps none more prominent than Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has been speaking to rallies, and led a march of students back to school today after several days off supporting their teachers.Tom Morello: Putting Wind in the Sails of the Struggle
February 22, 2011"Today on the Capitol steps, what we did there was create a little bit of the world we'd like to see," says Tom Morello, musician with Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and solo performer as The Nightwatchman. He joined the protests in Wisconsin to help lift the spirits and support the protesters, and he notes that this struggle is historic. "This is a shining example, for working people across the United States to not just hold dearly to the rights they have, but let's do some advancing of those rights as well."
