Well, Ayele Shakur, Executive Director of the Boston Learning Center, and Gary Bracey, Project Director of Building Inspiration to Fight Failure (BIFF) say that it is one way of motivating students. They are co-founders of the Smart is Cool campaign and have developed a model that they say not only keeps kids in school but keeps them engaged.
