Commercial Real Estate the Next Bust?
April 8, 2010We learned all too late about the disaster brewing in domestic real estate; that helped destroy our economy the first time around. Now, the city is dotted with new commercial buildings standing empty, no one can afford to rent them. GRITtv took a trip around the city to look into the reasons why we're building huge towers--and how we can get better at matching the allocation of resources with need.David Corn, Wikileaks Video, and Mine Safety
April 7, 2010On Tuesday, the Obama White House released its Nuclear Posture Review, a policy statement that sets guidelines for nuclear weapons policy for the next five to ten years. Mother Jones' David Corn notes that arms control advocates were "mildly impressed" with the policy, which is being characterized as a middle course.Dick Reavis: The Secret World Of Day Laborers
March 24, 2010"I was a philosophy major, so I did day labor," jokes veteran journalist and professor Dick Reavis. But he didn't expect to have to go back to day labor at retirement age. February 19, 2010"No one could've seen this coming." We heard that line over and over again as the economy crumbled around our ears. Yet many people DID see it coming, and Dean Baker was one of them.Media Panel, Dean Baker and Zhinan
February 18, 2010Every week on GRITtv, we discuss the week in news: stories that made a splash, stories that were ignored, stories that were covered well, or stories that were covered badly.Rodney Leon: Mourning and Moving Forward in Haiti
February 18, 2010Nearly a month ago, Haitian-American architect Rodney Leon was part of our panel discussion on a possible future for Haiti. The devastation from January's earthquake is beginning to be cleared, but the country still faces nearly unimaginable challenges in rebuilding.Vaccines and Choice, Rodney Leon, and Kate Clinton
February 17, 2010A new bill is making its way through the New York state legislature that would give minors the ability to consent to vaccinations for sexually transmitted infections, like Gardasil, the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. But parents are unhappy with the bill because it would allow children as young as nine to receive the immunization.
