Laura Flanders, Founder & Host Laura is a long-time journalist, author and media activist.  She wrote the New York Times bestseller Bushwomen: Tales of a Cynical Species (2004, Verso) and Blue Grit: Making Impossible, Improbable, and Inspirational Political Change in America (2007, The Penguin Press) and edited At the Tea Party... (2010, O/R books.) Before founding GRITtv, she hosted The Laura Flanders Show, on Air America Radio from the network's start to 2007.  Before that, she was the founding host of Your Call on public radio KALW in San Francisco. She is also a regular contributor to The Nation magazine, CounterPunch and the Huffington Post.  Flanders helped to found and directed the Women's Desk at the media watch group Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) where for more than 10 years she also produced and hosted CounterSpin, FAIR's nationally-syndicated radio program.  Laura is a regular commentator on MSNBC's "The Ed Show" where she has become the go-to source for reliable, progressive analysis of the day's top stories.  She was recently declared a NY Moves "Power Woman of the Year." Her Twitter is @GRITlaura   Gina Kim, Supervising Producer Gina was a producer for NOW with Bill Moyers & David Brancaccio, a political news magazine show on PBS, and for Donahue on MSNBC. She also worked with Michael Moore on “The Awful Truth.” Before becoming involved in television, she was a campaign director for the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), focusing on tort reform and environmental issues. Gina also worked for the White House Office of Advance for Bill Clinton.   Diane Shamis, Senior Producer Diane's first act of civil disobedience was in the first grade. Before coming to GRITtv, Diane served as the National Coordinator for the Gulf Coast Renewal Campaign, Field Coordinator for Progressive Democrats of America,  National Coordinator of United Progressives for Democracy, National Coordinator of the Independent Progressive Politics Network, and the Outreach Coordinator for the Hip Hop Caucus. A law school graduate, Diane got involved in media working on independent documentaries in various capacities and as a producer on the PBS series, South Africa Now.   Sam Alcoff, Director Sam has been working in political media in New York for five years. Prior to joining GRITtv, Sam has worked with Deep Dish TV and New York City's Independent Media Center's IndyVideo.  In his free time, Sam enjoys reading social movement histories, creating activist internet resources, and butchering Spanish (the language, not the people).
