"We have to change the balance here and the way you change the balance is a conceptual shift in what you see as the purpose of a nation. The purpose of a nation isn't to make the rich richer or to make the poor poorer, it's to make sure that you have a vibrant economy where there's room for everyone," says Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich.
Laura sat down with Rep. Kucinich in Madison March 12 after his speech at a rally hosted by The Progressive magazine and discussed the attacks on public sector workers and what a real economic democracy would look like--full employment, universal health care and education, and a commitment to peace.

Kucinich and his supporters had better read the signs of our times. There is a reason Obama has not been able to stop the war money machine here. JFK got shot after he’d passed up “kinetic action” (or whatever Euphemism they have this week) for the same kind of situation they set up with their private money in the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. It was all ready for the TV cameras to lie to the American peole about sending their boys in for war to get the sugar plantations back for Brown Brothers and State Street shareholders. Americans had better read between the lines and prepare themselves with a lot more than electing a candidate and trying to pass legislation and budgets with even more Citizen’s United Reactionaries in the next Congress.
Thomas Linzey said it correctly:
“Movements thus seek to drive rights into the Constitution — our framework of governance in these United States. Past Peoples’ movements have thrust groups of people into the protections of our framework of governance. Those movements understood that the real battles worth fighting are the ones focused on rights, and that everything else is simply window dressing. ”

These “wars” represent “property rights” for military industrial complex shareholders, and there is a nice endless circular feedback loop in the form of campaign finance and “money as speech” built in since the last time the American people on the face of it shut down a war machine! That took away profits from “property” and that is supposedly against this Constitution! We had better start applying ourselves to the Constitution and the whole process surrounding it that defines it if we expect to see any change around here!
Lewis Powell had the same advice for his side in the 1970s, and they heeded it with their Litigation Center expressly setup by the Chamber of Commerce.
“The Judiciary may be the most important instrument for social, economic, and political change.” – Lewis Powell
They have been working to ram in case law precedent in ever since that has changed our world. And they have more lined up with Roberts, Scalia, and Alito, and the other two who go along, to undermine Brown, Roe, and use of statistical use of evidence to prove institutional racism or other asymmetric protection of rights.
Meanwhile, continues Linzey: “…instead of working to secure rights, we’ve focused on attempting to “regulate” environmental harms from certain activities. Of course, when you “regulate” something, you inherently confer upon it the “right” to exist. At the same time, you reinforce your sole role as a regulator.”
Let’s not make the same half-measure mistake we made electing Obama. He is trapped in a system systematically crafted one case at a time since the 1970s! We had better take on that system and stop getting caught up in the window dressing between Dems and Reps in Congress!
